Education for development of children is paramount. Vidyoday Foundation is cognizant of the limitations of our society and challenges faced by families that limit or impede a child’s education. Vidyoday Foundation strongly believes that education is essential to develop healthy social interaction skills, critical skills like decision-making, mental agility, problem-solving, and logical thinking, in turn creating various opportunities to help these children live better lives.

Vidyoday Foundation observed that:

  • Financially challenged parents with two or more children often prioritize the education of the male child. We step in to support the girl child’s education.
  • Students are singled out and humiliated in class when their parents aren’t able to pay the annual fees. When we support these students they can focus on education, worry-free.
  • We support single, working mothers who are struggling to put food on the table and may be uneducated themselves. These mothers now have the security that their children will receive the necessary academic experience.

Chingari

The Vidyoday Foundation’s Chingari project was conceptualized to help children in need of education. The project is based on the idea that senior students tutor junior students belonging to 1st through 8th standard. The junior students are provided with one-to-one support under the supervision of teachers, making it comfortable to focus on their weak areas. The family and personal backgrounds of each of these students is kept in mind to provide them with special care as required by them.

The project also seeks to provide senior students with learning opportunities to advance their teaching and leadership skills.

The advantage to all participants in this project, creates enthusiasm and momentum to illuminate the brilliance of the students lagging behind. Consequently the tutored students have increased classroom participation and successful overall performance. The most important factor in children’s education is the extent to which we teach them to enjoy learning! Teaching a child to take pleasure in study is the greatest guarantor of their intellectual success.

This is the ninth year for Chingari and the programme has evolved over time to accommodate students through different life and academic situations. New methods of teaching and various strategies have been tried to enhance the programme. The latest decision was to include students from class 4 to 8 (in addition to students from class 1 to 4). The reason for this was that online learning, during the last two years of the pandemic, slowed down the progress of select students.

In 2022-23 Vidyoday Foundation successfully assisted a total of 97 students of various schools of Gujarat. The total amount of aid provided was INR 6,42,090.00.

Looking ahead at 2023, Vidyoday Foundation’s Chingari project seeks to implement learning from the past 9 years to improve and deliver precisely for the growth of potential students as well as progress of teaching students and teachers.
