A Special and Unique Fancy Dress Competition
Vidyoday Foundation & C. K. Gohil Primary School jointly planned to organise a Fancy Dress Competition. They discussed the idea with teachers and students. After the discussions teachers and students came up with unique idea; they decided that younger students of standard 1st, 2nd and 3rd will participate in the fancy dress competition as poets, women leaders, freedom fighters, social servants, sport persons or athletes, school trusties and characters showing unity in diversity. But each participant should know the qualities, specialities or characteristics of the character they will represent. Whole class would participate in the competition as a unit for the elder students of standard 4th to standard 7th. As for example there would be 5 teams in a class and each team will depict one famous scientist and on a table they would display either a model of that scientist’s work or show experiment of that scientist. This way they would research about that scientist and that scientist’s work in detail.
In this competition there was no stage to perform as every class was a performance stage, the judges went from class-room to class-room to judge the students’ performances. Even the audience went from class-room to class-room. And the fun part was the participants also wanted to see what is going on in other class-rooms and took turns to visit the other class-rooms.
In this special and unique Fancy Dress Competition, the participants researched and learnt a lot about the character they were playing and they will never forget that in their life.
Writing Competition at Bapupura Primary School
On 7th February, 2015 Vidyoday Foundation & C-Metric Solutions Pvt. Ltd. volunteers visited Bapupura Primary School near Gandhinagar. The purpose of the visit was to spend some time with the students, interact with them and give them some stationery items to motivate them. For that a writing competition was organised for the students of standard 1st to standard 6th. Students welcomed us with a song. Students participated enthusiastically in the writing competition. Their enthusiasm was inspiring. One winner was selected from each standard. School bags were given as a prize to all the winners. To encourage all the students; stationery items like, pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, notebooks, compass boxes, geometry sets, socks and chocolates were distributed to all of them.
CHINGARI
The ongoing project of Vidyoday Foundation CHINGARI has a systematic process to select the students who lag behind in studies. An experienced teacher would test the students of standard 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for general reading and writing. Those students who can read and write well would be encouraged to read good books. Now the students who could not read and/or write properly would be tested again for their level of knowing alphabets, words, sentences etc. and would be divided in three groups : A, B, and C.
The students who are in C group would be taught together in a chorus reading. As they progress in their reading skills they would be sent to B group.
