Sweets Distribution on the Occasion of Uttarayan

Gujarat has a tradition of celebrating Uttarayan (Kite Festival) on January 14th, every year. Uttarayan is being considered as one the significant festivals of Gujarat. The traditional way to celebrate this day is also to distribute sweets, fruits and other things to the needy people. On this auspicious occasion of Uttarayan we as volunteers of Vidyoday Foundation & C-Metric Solutions Pvt. Ltd. went to a slum area near Rakshashakti Circle, Kudasan, Gandhinagar on 14th January, 2017. We celebrated this festival with children and elders of that area. We interacted with these people to make them realised that they are also an equal part of our society. We were able to bring smiles and happiness on their faces by sharing undhiyu and jalebi. The response and interaction was amazing from all of them and our team felt really very good.

Play-way Methods of Learning : A new initiative by CHINGARI

As described earlier, CHINGARI is an ongoing project of Vidyoday Foundation where elder students teach reading and writing skills to the younger students; of standard 1st , 2nd, 3rd and 4th standard.  who are lagging behind in the studies and have difficulty in reading and writing. Elder students found that some younger students were really slow learners and were not able to remember the Gujarati alphabets. It is very important to remember alphabets in order to read and write any language. Here the significant point is that the elder students have found out a creative solution; – easier and play-way method of teaching alphabets. This way they made learning more interesting, easier to grasp and remember. They made songs to teach Gujarati alphabets and tried teaching the alphabets by singing those songs. It caught the attention of their younger students who were not able to remember the same alphabets. They made them sing the same songs time and again and then added steps of dance with the songs. That worked wonders and their students picked up the songs and dance steps very fast by every day repeating it joyfully. That way the younger students kept on enjoying singing and dancing in the class and started coming to the class regularly, their attention span also got extended and they practiced with zeal and learnt by heart the Gujarati alphabets.
